Leah Williamson has returned to the England squad for the start of their 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign. The England captain was named in the 25-player squad by head coach Sarina Wiegman on Tuesday. Williamson missed England's final camp of 2025 due to injury, making her return a significant boost for the Lionesses.
The Lionesses will begin their qualification journey with two fixtures in March. England face Ukraine on Tuesday 3 March 2026 in Antalya, Turkey. They then host Iceland at The City Ground, Nottingham, on Saturday 7 March 2026.
Hannah Hampton, Jess Carter, Alex Greenwood, and Lauren James also returned to the squad alongside Williamson. Head coach Wiegman emphasised the importance of these initial matches, stating the team aims to "start our campaign off in the best possible way" against new opposition. The 2027 World Cup will be held in Brazil.
