Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has described continued racism in football as shameful but not surprising.

Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce said that football continues to be blighted by racism, according to BBC Sport. The American player commented on alleged racist abuse directed at Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during a recent La Liga fixture. Tullis-Joyce stated that such incidents remain a persistent issue within the sport despite ongoing campaigns.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper joined United from OL Reign in 2023 and has become a regular starter for the women's team this season. She noted that while the abuse is shameful, the frequency of such reports means it no longer comes as a surprise to those within the game.

Real Madrid have previously filed multiple complaints with Spanish prosecutors regarding the treatment of Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian international has been a frequent target of discriminatory chants during away matches in Spain. Tullis-Joyce called for more consistent action to address the problem across all levels of professional football. Her comments come ahead of United's next fixture in the Women's Super League.
