Salford City show improvement in FA Cup tie

Football

Thirteen months after an 8-0 thrashing, Salford City delivered a resilient performance in their 2-0 FA Cup loss to Manchester City.

Salford City exited the FA Cup Fourth Round after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. An early own goal from Salford's Alfie Dorrington gave City the lead. Marc Guéhi sealed the victory with a late strike for the Premier League champions.

This performance marked a significant improvement for Salford City. Thirteen months prior, on January 11, 2025, the League Two side suffered a demoralising 8-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup Third Round. James McAtee scored a hat-trick in that previous encounter.

Despite making nine changes, Manchester City faced a more resolute Salford side this time. Salford created chances, with Ben Woodburn forcing a good save from James Trafford before half-time. Manager Karl Robinson's team showed considerable heart and improvement against their formidable opponents.
