Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has called for life bans for anyone found guilty of racist behaviour in football. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the head coach stated that such individuals should not be in the game. His comments follow a recent incident where a supporter was charged after a match against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
Rosenior explained that education is vital, but maintained that strict punishments are necessary to protect players and staff. He praised the work of anti-racism organisations while calling for more consistent action across all levels of the sport. According to BBC Sport, Chelsea have assisted police with investigations into recent reports of discriminatory abuse.
The Premier League previously updated its league-wide ban policy in 2021 to ensure individuals found guilty of such offences face a minimum one-year ban from all stadiums. Rosenior emphasised that the football community must maintain a zero-tolerance approach to ensure a safe environment for everyone involved in the professional game.
