Robert Duvall, the acclaimed American actor who passed away aged 95 on Monday, became an unlikely cult hero in Scottish football. Duvall starred as Gordon McLeod, the manager of fictional second-division club Kilnockie FC, in the 2000 film *A Shot at Glory*.
The film saw McLeod's Kilnockie side battle to reach the Scottish Cup final, facing pressure from an American owner threatening to relocate the club to Dublin. Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist played Jackie McQuillan, an ageing forward and McLeod's estranged son-in-law, in the movie.
Duvall embraced the Scottish football culture during filming, with McCoist recalling how the actor "became one of the boys". He reportedly formed a friendship with Celtic legend Jimmy Johnstone, even naming his dog "Jinky" in his honour.
