Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has apologised for comments made regarding immigration in the UK. Speaking to Sky News on Wednesday, Ratcliffe stated the UK had been "colonised" by immigrants, citing inaccurate population figures and linking immigration to welfare dependency.
His remarks drew widespread condemnation. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the comments as "offensive and wrong". Manchester United supporters' groups, including the 1958 Group and the Muslim Supporters Club, criticised the statements, calling them "ill-advised" and "deeply divisive".
Manchester United subsequently issued a statement asserting its "inclusive and welcoming" values, without directly naming Ratcliffe. The Football Association is currently examining the comments to determine if disciplinary action is warranted. Concerns have also emerged regarding the potential impact on club sponsors and the proposed new stadium project.
