Man City's Rodri charged by FA over referee comments

Manchester City midfielder Rodri faces a misconduct charge from the Football Association following remarks made about officials.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association. The charge relates to comments he made about referees after City's 2-2 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

The FA alleges Rodri acted improperly during a post-match interview, making remarks that implied bias or questioned the integrity of match officials. Rodri stated, "the referee has to be neutral" and "it's not fair," following decisions that frustrated his side. City felt Tottenham's first goal, scored by Dominic Solanke, should have been disallowed for a foul on Marc Guehi.

The Spain international has until Wednesday, February 18, to respond to the charge. An independent panel will adjudicate the matter, with a suspension a potential sanction for the midfielder.
