Football

Virgil van Dijk has expressed his desire for Mohamed Salah to remain at Liverpool, highlighting the forward's importance to the club.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk stated he "always wants" Mohamed Salah to stay at Anfield. Van Dijk made the comments following Liverpool's 3-0 FA Cup victory over Brighton on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Salah scored a goal and provided an assist in the match.

Van Dijk emphasised Salah's continued significance, stating the Egyptian is "still so important for us" and "gives the team more than goals". He also noted Salah's leadership qualities and presence on the pitch benefit the team.

Salah's current contract with Liverpool is set to expire in June 2027. Despite this, speculation persists regarding potential interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Reports in December 2025 suggested a disagreement between Salah and manager Arne Slot, but relations have reportedly improved since Salah's return from the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
