Leicester City are expected to appoint Gary Rowett as their new head coach, according to BBC Radio Leicester. The Championship club is currently struggling in the relegation zone after a difficult start to the 2025-26 campaign. Rowett, 51, previously managed Birmingham City, Derby County, and Stoke City. He most recently served as an interim manager at Birmingham City during the 2023-24 season.
The appointment follows the club's decision to part company with Steve Cooper earlier this week. Leicester City currently sit in 22nd place in the table, having recorded only seven wins from 31 league fixtures. The board hopes Rowett can secure their position in the second tier and avoid a second relegation in three years. Discussions between the club and Rowett are at an advanced stage, with an official announcement expected within 24 hours. The new head coach will likely take charge before the weekend fixture against Hull City. Club officials have not yet commented on the length of the proposed contract.
