Feyenoord Move Training to Belgium for Sterling

Football

Dutch club Feyenoord has relocated training to Belgium this week to allow new signing Raheem Sterling to join his teammates.

Feyenoord have temporarily moved their training operations from Rotterdam to Belgium this week. The Dutch Eredivisie side made the decision to facilitate new signing Raheem Sterling's integration into the squad. Sterling, who joined Feyenoord on a free transfer on 12 February, has not yet received an official work permit to train with the team in the Netherlands.

The England international was therefore unable to feature in Feyenoord's Eredivisie match against Go Ahead Eagles on 15 February. Head coach Robin van Persie confirmed the short training camp abroad, stating it allows Sterling to train with the team while his paperwork is processed. Van Persie also noted the trip provides an opportunity for team development and strengthening squad cohesion. Sterling is expected to commence training with his new teammates on Tuesday. The club plans for the team to spend approximately one and a half to two days in Belgium.
