The Football Association has charged Cardiff City following reports of homophobic chanting during their FA Cup match against Chelsea.

The Football Association (FA) has charged Cardiff City with two breaches of its rules regarding spectator conduct. The charges relate to alleged homophobic chanting by supporters during an FA Cup fourth-round tie at Stamford Bridge on January 25, 2026. According to the FA, the club failed to ensure its spectators conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.

The governing body alleges Cardiff failed to prevent fans from using words that were offensive, improper, or insulting with reference to sexual orientation. This constitutes an aggravated breach under FA Rule E21. Cardiff City has until February 27, 2026, to provide a response to the allegations, per BBC Sport.

Chelsea progressed in the competition with a 2-0 victory during the match in question. The FA continues to investigate reports of discriminatory behaviour across the professional game. Cardiff City has not yet released a public statement regarding the specific details of the disciplinary proceedings.
