Chelsea Women head coach Sonia Bompastor believes the current rules regarding goalkeeper treatment should be amended. Bompastor made the comments following her team's 2-0 Women's Champions League victory over Roma on Wednesday. The manager suggested that players use injury stoppages for goalkeepers to receive tactical instructions from coaching staff.
According to BBC Sport, Bompastor stated that such stoppages should not be allowed as they disrupt the flow of the game. Under existing regulations, play must stop if a goalkeeper requires medical attention, as they cannot be easily replaced on the pitch. Bompastor noted that outfield players often gather at the touchline during these intervals.
The Chelsea manager proposed that if a goalkeeper requires treatment, they should perhaps be forced to leave the pitch for a set period. This would mirror the rules for outfield players, who must remain off the field for 30 seconds after receiving medical help. Chelsea currently lead their Champions League group with four wins from four matches.
