Medhi Benatia has resigned as Olympique Marseille's sporting director, days after manager Roberto de Zerbi's departure.

Medhi Benatia has resigned as Olympique Marseille's sporting director. He announced his departure on Sunday, 15 February 2026, via an Instagram post. Benatia stated his decision to leave was made on Monday, 9 February, hours before manager Roberto de Zerbi's exit.

He cited "growing dissatisfaction" and the "current climate" around the squad as factors in his resignation. Benatia expressed regret at failing to "calm the atmosphere" around the team. Roberto de Zerbi left his role as Marseille manager by mutual consent on Tuesday, 11 February.

De Zerbi's departure followed a 5-0 league defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and the club's Champions League elimination. Benatia had previously tied his future to De Zerbi's tenure at the French club. Olympique Marseille is now in the market for both a new manager and a new sporting director.
