Dick Advocaat has stood down as the head coach of the Curacao men's national team, according to BBC Sport. The 78-year-old Dutchman resigned for personal reasons only months before leading the nation to its first FIFA World Cup finals. Curacao will now appoint a new head coach to take charge of the squad for their upcoming warm-up friendly against Scotland on 30 May.
Advocaat joined the Caribbean side in January 2024 and successfully guided them through the qualification process for the 2026 tournament. His departure means he will miss the opportunity to become the oldest manager in World Cup history. The Curacao Football Federation has not yet named a permanent successor for the veteran coach.
Scotland men's team will face the new management during the match at the Erilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad. The fixture remains a key part of the preparation for both nations. Advocaat previously managed the Netherlands, Rangers, and Sunderland during a career spanning over 40 years.
